Open House

Back to School! Today was the teacher's first official day back, starting with our big district meeting. We then had our open house this afternoon and I got to meet my new wonderful kiddos!! It always gets me excited to see new faces and to see how excited they are to start! They did a fun scavenger hunt to help them find things around the room! It was a great start and I can't want to see them all on Wednesday!

And it has begun...

Well, the time has come. There is no more trying to extend summer because kids will be starting back to school in just 11 short days! I have been in the school on and off this week, but really haven't got to dive in too much because of my room not getting cleaned until Friday and the internet having problems.  I have gotten most of my furniture put where it needs to be, and I seemed to make 5 tables fit even though I thought there was no way! Here are a few pics of the little bit of progress.

There is still a lot of junk covering the tables that needs to find a home!

My newly organized library. Now it just needs labels!

I got my CAFE menu up!! I am sooo excited about implementing the Daily 5 and CAFE this year!

Summer

Wow!! I can't believe it is already the end of July! School is starting in less than a month!! I am excited to get started again, but I am also sad because I have been enjoying the nice weather and my little man all summer! I am also hoping to do much better with my blog this school year than I did last year! I started out so good and then things got crazy in the middle of the year and it fell by the wayside! I hope everyone had a great summer and more to come once things get rolling at the school!

Martin Luther/Penguins

Well, January has already ended and we are into the busy month of February. In January, we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day! The kids just loved learning about him and how he was such a good person and how he got the awful laws changed! We also talked about how everyone is unique, and that's ok, because that is what makes us special! We read, "The crayon box that talked" which is a great story that teaches that message and we put together a bulletin board with the other Kindergarten where we displayed our "unique" crayon selves!

In January we also started our unit on penguins which we just finished up this week! We started off with our big penguin schema chart. They surprised me with all the information they already knew! We did lots of other activities such as diagrams, labeling, bubble maps, reading books, art projects, math activities, and more!! The kids had a blast with it! Here are just a few of the things we did!

December

Well, I have been slacking on the blog!! Sorry! Life has just been so busy that every time I thought about it, something else came up and I forgot again! Here are some pictures of the great Christmas party we had! Thanks parents for helping out and bringing great games and snacks!

We also had polar express day in December. We ended our trip around the world learning about holidays with a stop at the North Pole. We did all sorts of fun activities in the morning and even got to watch the movie in the afternoon and have cocoa and cookies! We even got to wear our pajamas! It was a fun day!

Thanksgiving & Letter P

Well time sure does fly! Our first 9 weeks is already over and its Parent-Teacher Conference time! I am very impressed with how well my students are doing so far! We have been starting some Thanksgiving activities now that it is already half way through November! We did thankful feathers that are on our classroom door. They look great! We brainstormed what we were all thankful for and then the kids did the writing and illustrating!

We also had our first family project! We sent home "Tom the Turkey" with each family and asked them to create a disguise for him so that he wouldn't get eaten on Thanksgiving!! They kids had a blast and I am amazed at how creative our families are!!
This week was also "P" week so I had a little surprise for them for snack on Tuesday...Pancakes!! They were telling me it was the best day ever! They got to help make the batter and even poor their own pancake!
