Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This week we did many fun things using the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." We read the story and watched the video multiple times. We got together with the other 2 Kindergarten classes and decorated letters for our "Chicka Trees" bulletin board in the hallway. They look so cute!

We also did a coconut counting book and an alphabet coconut page using bingo dobbers. Today we finished up by making our own "Chicka Trees" using our arms and hands as the tree. We then got to dig through a bucket of letters and find the letters in our name to go on our trees. They turned out great!

Full/Long Week

Well the end of our first FULL week is coming to a close! And boy am I glad we have a 3 day weekend ahead! I forget how much Kindergarteners wear me out at the beginning of the year! Whew! And with 21 students it is a busy classroom! But we are having a great time and I think this will be a great bunch of kids this year! We have started our Reading Series this week, starting with a quick review of the alphabet. We also did a quick review of numbers 1-10, shapes, and colors. We will get more in depth into each area as the year goes along. We also learned some nursery rhymes this week and did learning centers with partners! They did a great job working together!

One of our classmates grandmother brought us in a butterfly cocoon the first day of school. It started out light green, but it has now turned black!! I think this means he is getting ready to come out! Hopefully he will be out (and alive!) when we get back on Tuesday! It has been really exciting to watch him change!

First Week

The first week of Kindergarten is over and boy am I tired!! After a summer off, I always forget year to year how draining a day is in Kindergarten! Especially this year since there are 20 little people in our class! We spent much of our time working on basic coloring and cutting skills, along with practicing rules and procedures and the basics of how to be in school! I can already see a big difference in 3 days! We ended our day today with creating our "faces" to hang in the classroom!

First Day

Well...we made it!! First day is over and I would say it was a success! But I will say that 19 energetic kiddos wore me out!! I thought my one year old was tiring...I was proved wrong!! We got to go on a fun scavenger hunt around the school looking for Pete the Cat, we learned all about the rules, explored math tubs, and we made Kissing Hands for our parents! All in all a great day!

Open House

Back to School! Today was the teacher's first official day back, starting with our big district meeting. We then had our open house this afternoon and I got to meet my new wonderful kiddos!! It always gets me excited to see new faces and to see how excited they are to start! They did a fun scavenger hunt to help them find things around the room! It was a great start and I can't want to see them all on Wednesday!

And it has begun...

Well, the time has come. There is no more trying to extend summer because kids will be starting back to school in just 11 short days! I have been in the school on and off this week, but really haven't got to dive in too much because of my room not getting cleaned until Friday and the internet having problems.  I have gotten most of my furniture put where it needs to be, and I seemed to make 5 tables fit even though I thought there was no way! Here are a few pics of the little bit of progress.

There is still a lot of junk covering the tables that needs to find a home!

My newly organized library. Now it just needs labels!

I got my CAFE menu up!! I am sooo excited about implementing the Daily 5 and CAFE this year!

Summer

Wow!! I can't believe it is already the end of July! School is starting in less than a month!! I am excited to get started again, but I am also sad because I have been enjoying the nice weather and my little man all summer! I am also hoping to do much better with my blog this school year than I did last year! I started out so good and then things got crazy in the middle of the year and it fell by the wayside! I hope everyone had a great summer and more to come once things get rolling at the school!
